Talia-1 spudded at 17:30 hours CST on 20 November 2006. Talia-1 was an exploration well that tested a Jurassic anticlinal trap in the southern Patchawarra Trough of PEL 107. The Talia Prospect was considered prospective because it lies updip of the Sturt and Tantanna Oil Fields, both of which produce from more than one formation in the Eromanga Basin sequence.
The primary objectives were the Late Jurassic / Early Cretaceous Namur Sandstone and the Middle Jurassic Birkhead Formation / Hutton Sandstone which are both productive in the Tantanna (4 km to the southeast) and Taloola Oil Fields (7 km to the east southeast). The secondary target of this well was the Early Jurassic Poolowanna Formation, which is productive for oil in the Sturt / Sturt East, Tantanna and Taloola Fields and at Sellicks-2, approximately 29km to the northwest.
Talia-1 reached its total depth of 1854m in basement at 1730hrs (CST) 29 October 2006. Wireline logs were run and the well was plugged and abandoned
