After 3 unsuccessful DST's, Kiana-2 was plugged and abandoned.
The well was designed to explore the physical extent of the Kiana oil field and, if successful, to optimise additional production that could not be accessed by Kiana-1. It spudded on 1 October 2006 to test a sub-culmination approximately 600 m to the west-southwest of Kiana-1 that offered the possibility of an incremental recoverable reserve potential of 520,000 barrels (mean) to 870,000 barrels (P10) of recoverable oil.
